Area Of Research Natural Product Chemistry Organic Synthesis Biochemistry:

Dr. U.C. De has joined in the Department of Chemistry, Tripura University on 30th January 2009. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph. D from Tripura University in 1997 and 2005 respectively. Before joining in Tripura University, he has worked as Asstt. Professor at N.S. Mahavidyalaya under Higher Education Department, Govt. of Tripura from April, 2002 to 29th January, 2009. He has worked with Dr. A. Basak, Scientist, Department of Biochemistry and Chronic Disease, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Ottawa, Canada as Post Doctoral Fellow in the year 2012.

Education

Dr. U.C. De earned his B.Sc (Chemistry Hons.) and M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry Specialization) from Tripura University in the year of 1993 and 1995 respectively and received gold medals for securing 1st Class 1st position both in B.Sc. & M.Sc. He has qualified GATE-96, NET in 1998(LS) and 1999 (CSIR). He obtained his Ph.D. Degree in 2005 from Tripura University and his doctoral thesis was on Phytochemistry (Chemistry of Medicinal Plants).

Dr. U.C. De has joined in the Department of Chemistry, Tripura University on January 2009 as Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor on April, 2016. Before joining in Tripura University, he worked as Assistant Professor at N.S. Mahavidyalaya under Higher Education Department, Govt. of Tripura from April, 2002 to 29th January, 2009. As Post Doctoral Fellow he has worked with Dr. A. Basak, Scientist, Department of Biochemistry and Chronic Disease, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Ottawa, Canada in the year 2012.

Research

His doctoral work was on isolation, characterization using various chemical and spectroscopic techniques viz. UV, IR, NMR (both 1D and 2D) & Mass. He also worked on various biological activity studies of the isolated phytochemicals. Accordingly his research interests are on phytochemical analysis and evaluation of medicinal values of various indigenous medicinal plants. Laterally he is also interested in analyzing the variation of biological activities of various ubiquitous plant based natural products through diversified functional alteration of them. In addition, he is also interested in molecular designing work using commercially available molecular modeling software in view of searching potential bio-molecules based on synthetically modified natural products of plant origin.
